IAWA’s Open Reading Series Featuring Antonio D’Alfonso & Richard Vetere – December 13, 2014

Italian American Writers Association Literary Reading (www.iawa.net).  Since 1991, IAWA has given voice to writers through its literary series every second Saturday of the month.  IAWA East is held even months at Sidewalk Café and IAWA West continues at Cornelia Street Café on odd months.

WHO:   Antonio D’Alfonso’s most recent books are Un ami, un nuage (Noroît, 2013) and The Irrelevant Man (Guernica, 2014).  He has written 30 books and won the Trillium Award for his novel Un vendredi du mois d’août in 2005. As founder of Canada-based Guernica Editions in 1978, he published more than 900 authors — many of whom are Italian-American — and 475 books. Since selling Guernica in 2010, he works as a literary translator and teaches creative writing, script writing, film studies, and Italian. His feature film Bruco won Best Director Award and Best Foreign Film Award at the New York International Independent Film Festival in 2010. He has just completed his next feature film Antigone.  He holds a PhD in film studies from University of Toronto.

Richard Vetere‘s new novel, The Writers Afterlife, from Three Rooms Press, received a rave review from Publishers Weekly. His other novels include Baroque and The Third Miracle from Simon & Schuster. He co-wrote the screenplay adaptation for The Third Miracle, produced by Francis Ford Coppola, directed by Agnieszka Holland and starring Ed Harris. His most recent book of poetry is The Other Colors in a Snow Storm. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for his stage play One Shot, One Kill. His other books of poetry include Memories of Human Hands and A Dream of Angels.

Event kicks off with Open Mic readings of five minutes.
