The Italian American Writers Association presents its Second Saturday Literary Reading (www.iawa.net). For 23 years, IAWA has given voice to writers through its literary series. The readings are now held at two venues: Cornelia Street Café on odd months (Sept, Nov) and Sidewalk Café on even months (Aug, Oct, Dec.)
Our next reading will take place on Saturday, July 12th from 5:45 to 7:45 pm at the Cornelia Street Cafe at 29 Cornelia Street in the West Village, NYC.
Our featured readers are Julia Fierro, who is the author of Cutting Teeth, which was included in Library Journal’s “Spring Best Debuts” and on “Most Anticipated Books of 2014″ lists by HuffPost Books, The Millions, Flavorwire, Brooklyn Magazine and Marie Claire. Julia’s work has been published, or is forthcoming, in Guernica, Poets & Writers, Glamour and other publications, and she has been profiled in the L Magazine, The Observer, and The Economist. In 2002, she founded The Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop, and what started as eight writers meeting in her Brooklyn kitchen has grown into a creative home for over 2500 writers. She is a graduate of The Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was a Teaching-Writing Fellow, and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their two children. Her website can be found at juliafierro.com.
Our additional featured reader is Joanne Monte, the recipient of the 2012 Bordighera Poetry Book Award for the collection The Blue Light of Dawn. Her poems have appeared in such literary journals as Poet Lore, The Raintown Review, Cerberus, Ancient Paths Literary Review, and Poet. Among her awards are The John David Johnson Memorial Poetry Award, The Writer’s Digest Award, and the New Millennium Writings Award IV for Poetry. She also published a novel, The Day to Eternity, in 2012. In 1999, the American Biographical Institute selected her as one of two thousand notable American women for her literary and humanitarian contributions.
This event kicks off with Open Mic readings of five minutes.
The cover is $8 and includes one drink.
